cowboy film noir
I’ve owed you one for a very long time.
I’m pretty shit at rhyming, but here it goes:
Patient, loving-kindness
that’s what you gave to me
at a time when I needed it most.
Constancy, joy, and laughter
Fun and silliness and faith
Comfort
All those gifts that can’t be bought
You wrapped in shiny Kentucky-blue paper
and gave with little expectation—
just hope, in your quiet way,
for more summer days and night drives,
dog parks and fair rides.
At every turn I resisted,
love still grew.
It bloomed in places I’d never known;
You became my safe haven, my best friend,
my home away from home.
When we got little Winnie,
love somehow exploded.
A family of three
A puppy, you and me.
But that doesn’t excuse the times I behaved like an ass, and for that, I am so so sorry.
In order for me to become the person I needed to be, I had to continue this journey alone.
You’re still the funniest person I know
And you made me better in more ways than one.
For that, thank you so much.
